Loaches Breeding?

Okay, a couple of weeks ago I bought two botia stratia. Right now they are handing out in a fairly empty 20 gallon tank (though well planted & with good bogwood & lots of Java Moss), waiting for me to get my SE Asian tank set up, which I was planning on doing today. As far as I know, the only living things in that tank are the 2 loaches, 3 cleaner shrimp, and a tiny pleco that appeared once when I was moving the bogwood. At least I think it was a pleco, it moved very fast and quickly hid. I had bought this tank used & still occupied, & the previous owner seemed to have lost track of what was in it . . .

So this morning I see this THING on the side of the aquarium, plastered to the glass at the water line. Whatever plastered it there also plastered a single flat piece of substrate there. It is a whitish cottony-looking thing, with something darkish inside. It is about the size of a grape. Looking closely, the darkish thing looks differentiated, as if there was more than one darkish thing. Now that I've got the eyes of a 50 year old, that's as much detail as I can see.

So did the loaches breed, or did something else, something sinister, decide to breed?

I was intending to siphon half of the water out of that tank, and put it & the tank's filter on my new SE Asian tank, to hopefully transfer most of the maturity of the tank, and I was going to do that today. However, if those are likely loach eggs, then I don't want to kill them.

So how long do I wait to see what hatches, assuming something will. Should I remove the two loaches to the new tank, or to my 40 gal tank, or leave them in there? Should I buy something in order to feed the fry, if fry hatches?

Only one month into this hobby, and I'm already very confused . . .

TIA,

Anita

Okay. Snails I can slaughter with abandon. Let the siphoning begin.

You might want to leave the snails to the Botia Stratia............they love'em........ :D

I have three of these and they are constantly on the go.......except for when they perch and survey what they can investigate next......... :D
