I don't know anything about loaches, but I like the way they look. Can anyone recommend a type of loach for a 30 gallon? All I know is it's recommended they go in groups and most get too big for my tank. Tankmates would be tetras, guppies, and a molly. I've heard chain loaches are small and also zebra loaches. Would either of these two work? Thanks,

Laura

Both would be fine.

Stay away from Clown loaches, skunk loaches (Yasuhikotakia morleti), and tiger loaches (Syncrossus beauforti/helodes/berdmorei). They're too big and/or aggressive.

Thanks both of you for your help. I think the Zebra and Khulie loaches are my top choices. I'm not sure what my LFS has, so we'll see what I can find.

Not sure but gonna guess you don't really have room...30L = about 8 Gallons and Peppermint plecos get to be about 7 inches....Probably pushing it already. But I could be wrong....

My fav are zebra loach. They are very funny to watch specially if you have lots of hidding places and ornaments in your tank. I only have 2 of them (need to get more but not available in LFS) but I really enjoy them. They are not shy at all and they are moving around all the time.

Awesome, I love their stripey pattern. I would prefer to see my fish too :)

I am also wanting some loaches for my 30 gallon tank, I saw some polka dot loaches in my lfs, really active and nice colours too, does anyone know anything more about these loaches??
