My two polka-dot loaches keep swimming up and down the glass and up and down the corners...I have just read that with pufferfish this is a sign of boredom so is it the same for all fish and does it apply to mine?

My two bengal loach also do this but i do not know why. It is usually at night when the light is off

My understanding with loaches is that they follow the contours of obstacles to find a way around. I've seen a lot of loaches run up and down glass, they may jut be trying to find a way over it into another body of water.

Some loaches are also very sensitive to the weather and will display strange behavior like pacing up and down the tank when stormy weather is approaching etc.

REALLY...thats wierrd..I will look out for that..maybe i COULD BE A WEATEHR AMN :fun:

Yeah it is a bit freaky, for example the Dojo loach is also known as the weather loach because it is so sensitive to such things- khuli loaches are also very sensitive to the weather, i remember when i had a big group of them their activity levels would go through the roof on rainy nights after the weather had been dry for a while.

I don't suppose it could cause seizures could it...I know someone whos are all dying from seizures!

well sensing the rain could be a hyper-sensivity to magnetism. Usually with rain and/or thunder storms, comes increases in electrical and magentic activity in the air. the loaches could be one of many perceived species of animals to have this, "sixth-sense" if you will, for sensing when a storm is moving in.

quite amazing that there could be possible natural evolutions in species to actually sense things that we can't even grasp being able to sense :good:

i dunno if they are similar, but my clown loaches do this, i recentley noticed them do it constantly when they had whitespot tho, but they do it when they are wll too :)
