Hard to keep up with my tanks, I know.. The 36g just finished it's cycle and got its CUC.

I got something new for this tank... I shall tease you... It is red...

New Addition to the 8g as of this past Saturday.

Lysmata debelius...

Watch him find a cave...

Watch him eat from my hand... :D

It's like having a dog. LOLOL

Your small tanks make me want a nano. :p

Nanos are great. You should do one. You just gotta be more diligent about the up keep. Can't get lazy. Wait til you see this... I did something yummy today.

I went to Home Depot and purchased...

1 package of Mounting screws - various sizes but I opted to use the 2"
1 shelf reinforcer, but turned the opposite way.
1 roll of duct tape (ended up not needing it)

My Metal Hallide has the following type of mounting...

If you rotate the shelf-reinforcer the opposite way, the now free slot slides right into the opening in the fixture, creating a stable mounting. Here are the pictures. Not too bad and I only had to use two screws.

I mounted it about 13" above the tank. I want to see how the tank handles the added heat of the hallide lamp, so I was conservative. It's super bright. And has a different hue. I may change the bulb, I may not. I like more cool tones, but I'll work with this one for a while. I can raise and lower the lamp if I need to by unscrewing the mount. It isn't hard. It looks much cleaner-looking than I expected. Water shimmer sooooooo pretty... :D

I'm going to go make some SW for my water changes now. :) Thanks for looking.

That is fantastic... I would but I still need to do my 55 as well as the one im getting from work.

Well, did another water change and everybody looks great. My fire shrimp eats from my hands. I have named him Clifford after the big red dog. :D

I got my first corals as they didn't have any fish that I wanted and since I had my MH already hooked up. These aren't the permanent positions, but with corals you have to start them at the bottom with a reduced photoperiod then work up the photoperiod and then work up the position. Especially with my lighting.

Orange zoanthids. Bigger than your average zoanthid. Looks a bit like Zoanthus pulchellus to me, but I'm not certain. They are even more open today than in the pictures below, but I can't be snapping pictures all day. I won't get any work done! LOLOL

Ricordea yuma...

When I first added it.

Extended... It's such a lovely color. It's even got a few yuma babies on the rock it's on.

I'm done with this tank for a while. I need to get paid, and the plants for my 36g have priority. My mom may buy me a frag. I found a place where they sell them for like $10

:) Thanks for looking.

Hahaha!

OK, I've got some yummy yuma pictures and other HD tidbits!

Fire shrimp... He shed this morning, OMG! Soooo glad that that wasn't my first shed. I would have had a heart attack!

OK, I'm done with pictures for now. I just had to share. I used a Sony cyber shot. :)

awesome pics. thats great you can get such nice pics from a point and shoot. we have a sony cybershot as well, tho i always use my DSLR for my tank and fish shots.

Just out of curiosity, what were you feeding your zoas.

those yuma's are just awesome though. If they grew faster, I'd get some for the big tank that's coming.

I'm actually feeding the Yuma, but the zoas happen to be in the same tank. Same thing in the 2.5g. The paly should be fed, but zoas are also in the tank. I feed phytoplankton. The stinky refrigerated stuff that you have to shake.

It's funny watching the corals sleep. The polyps close up. My Yuma gets all scrunchy. He's got a big mouth too. Bet he can handle a lot more than phytoplankton.

I've heard of rics eating mysis, though reportedly it really doesn't help with growth much unless you really cram it full of shrimp. I would use phyto in my tank, as it supposedly helps with acros, though I'd be worried about mucking up the water. SW tanks really completely change during the night, which I think is very cool. At night when my acro's feed, the polyps expand so much they look like they're going to fall off of the skeleton.

Ok, time for an update...

My biggest mistake so far... Say hello to "The Beast"...

58ea7026.jpg

A lovely frogspawn frag that then proceeded to wreak havoc with its evil frogspawn ways. You ask, why did llj buy a frogspawn, that wasn't on her list, and you're right, it wasn't. I thought it too agressive. But my mom wanted it, so.... NEWBIE mistake, listen to your gut. I probably will lose that lovely orange zoa frag and my gorgeous pink and green yuma has not been the same since. It's recovering, but slowly.

The frogspawn is now in a corner of my 36g, not wreaking havoc on anybody, awaiting pick up from a person who actually wants a frogspawn. LOLOLOL

Shame about the zoa, but this is a lesson. Journals are warts and all. I hope I don't lose my yuma, I don't think so, but he'll need time.

Now for the good things...

Lovely pinkish zoa frag.

And... I've been hanging around the local marine club and have met some nice people. One of whom was selling some Ricordea yumas.

I picked it up on Sunday. Needless to say, I love yumas...

I did my first RO dip this time. Very easy, take RO water, dip the coral, for about 15-30 seconds and shake a bit under water. Stuff comes out. Bad stuff that you don't want in your tank. The coral will sulk for about like 5 minutes, but I've removed parasites, so it says thank you later by extending...

But first in addition to the two Blue and Orange yumas... A freebie mushroom of unknown type and a feather duster...

c5a2d6f8.jpg

Now, time for the extended Yuma. It looks better in my tank that in it did in his, but I've got more light.

The club member has a cluster of four blue and orange yumas on a rock with zoas for sale and then a pumpkin yuma. I will most likely take these off his hands as I am now obsessed with yumas.

Will keep you posted. :)
