Liza's eating habits

:) She's so tiny!! Glad to hear she's eating better. I know she'll be happier in the tank with the other girls to keep her company.

Yeah, she's really really tiny.
But she thinks she's really BIG.
She headbutts everyone out of the way when the food is coming in.
lol

I wish I could put Pea Princess in with the other 12 girls in the 120 gallon but that would mean I would have to re-arrange the tank, and catch all 12 girls take them out and then re-introduce them to the tank again. So much work.

I tried putting like 3 of the females in her 10 gallon when Pea Princess was in the 10 gallon and she kicked them all out. She would get in the S shape for fighting and flare non-stop. I think she may be better off by herself anyway. What do you think?

Well....
you might try this.
I put her little teeny tank next to the big tank and let her flare at them for 2 days.
Also, the warmth from their tank helped warm up her tank slowly by being pressed up against it.

She got a bit bored with the flaring and stuff so when she kinda stopped that, I decided it was time to give it a try.

I also never rearranged the tank while the girls were out... I just put Liza in first, then Daisy, then Pearl, etc. (least aggressive to most aggressive in order) and there were no issues whatsoever.

You may have run into the issue with just 4 of them together in the 10G tank, and she saw that area as her turf - so she got really territorial. I'd at least give it a try - just net the girls in the big tank, put them into something for a few minutes and put her in, then start releasing everyone else into the tank. The worst thing that can happen is you'll have to take her out - I don't think everybody else would even notice here, there, honestly, with that many girls. And, if the rest of your girls are not that aggressive, she might get bored with them not doing anything back to her when she tries to curl up and flare.

When I first had Cloey and Liza together in the 5G tank, Cloey curled up and fought with her ALWAYS, and chased her around non-stop. I think that now that the pecking order has been established with everybody else and Liza has now calmed down and is just another member of those on the lower end of the order, everything's working out great.

I would give it a try!
Let me know what happens! =)

Her 1.5 gallon bowl is next to Deieter's 10 gallon tank and I don't know how he would feel if I moved "his" woman away from him. He gets all pissed when I move her away from his tank for a water change. He swims madly all over the tank darting around looking for her. :dunno: I just wish my fish could tell me what they wanted.

OOoooooh.
Well that could be tragic for him too in that case.
Would you ever consider splitting off a section of his tank for her?
With a divider? :)

Yea, I may do that. But Deiter has jumped a divider before, no matter how high it is. And that was only to rip apart Cotton Candy, imagine how high he could jump for love.  I will try picking up two dividers this weekend. One for my 10 gallon with Pea Princess and Deiter, and one for Cotton Candy and the dwarf puffer.

Oh yes - for love he could jump to infinite proportions.

I got 2 dividers and left a space between the 2 for any jumping that may go on. That way, they'd either have to both jump to the middle or one would have to jump both dividers to get to the other one.

You might consider that?
Good luck whatever you decide to do :)

I will have to see if the LPS has any dividers for 10 gallons. Last time I checked they didn't have any in. Hopefully they will have some this weekend. I am thinking of dividing both 10 gallons into two 5 gallon parts and put my 4 boys in there. Or the 3 boys and Pea princess in Deiter's other half.

I put Pea princess in the 120 gallon today after moving some things around and catching all of the bigger females. I added them all at the same time and she still got picked on. Everyone flared at her and chased her into the corner of the tank. She had bad clamped fins and dark stress lines.

I moved her into her old 1 gallon kritter keeper and within 5 minutes of being in her old tank her stress bars were gone and she was fanning her pretty tail for Deiter. I don't think I can separate those two. I think the best idea would be to split Deiter's tank in two and giving the other part to Pea Princess.

Then I'd split Cotton Candy's tank with Pegasus my newest male, because they've already have had encounters with each other twice and all they did was flare a few times and then swam side by side like they actually liked each other. :hyper: So if anyone does decided to jump the divider, maybe it wouldn't be so bad as if I put Angus in there with him.

Then Angus will stay in the 3 gallon bowl since he is doing great in there.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out with her.
:/

Maybe she asked the other girls to chase her around like that so you'd put her in a tank next to her boyfriend? ;) lol

I'm really happy with my 10G setup.
I gave it a 100% water change tonight, pulled a scoop of gravel from my girly tank and got the filter going. Hopefully it'll be cycled before I know it.
10G tanks are fabulous for bettas. I love them!
Let me know what you decide to do :)

Yea, I will definately be going to the pet store tomorrow. I am afraid if they don't have the tank dividers I'll come home with another boy. WHY do they have to put the bettas on display right next to all the fish supplies?! Argh.

I was thinking of a larger fish for my tank. Like a peacful cichlid or something, but I am afraid they'd eat my neons or something.

What about a black ghost knife? :dunno:

I know we're on a different topic now, but I wanted to add a couple things :) With choking you want to look at the width of the worm over length. They seem to have a harder time with the thicker ones.

Also I would guess that she'll start to grow now that she's back in the big tank

Raech - I think they put the fish next to the fish supplies for people like you and me. lol I think they ALSO put the fish through a rigorous training process when they first come in on how to bat their eyelashes most productively when people come in peeking at them in their cups.

Sorrell - I had thought of that too. Since the first choking incident she hasn't done it again so I think she probably just inhaled it too quick or something. Do you think that the reason she's so small is that she had a 2 week delay in starting to eat? Or could it be the fact that she ONLY eats bloodworms and peas? I have tried EVERYTHING with that girl - brine shrimp, freeze dried blood worms, pellets (3 different brands), daphnia, some kind of plankton stuff (I think that's what it was), and she just won't eat anything except frozen blood worms and peas OFF A SPOON from me. Even in the big tank when all the other girls are leaping out of the water at the spoon I have to shoo them away. lol

Haha  They must train them to give the "puppy eyes" as well. :D Because I get that look a lot! My divider is only $7.00 and I have $10 to spend...a betta is around $3.00 too. I just don't have anywhere to put him right now.
