i have a nice community tank, but for some reason, all the mollies, guppies, and swordtails, and all livebearers die very quickly. But i get tetras and egg layers and any other fish and they live just fine. Why is this?

Can you let us know your water conditions? I assume since other fish are doing okay your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels are at acceptable levels. Are you using filtered water or just plain tap water?

Also how many gallons or litres is the tank.

i use filtered water, my tank water is more soft and acidic, so i think that is why the tetras like it so much. I know that livebearers like harder water, so is that the reason?

I could see that as a possibility. If you have any other livebearers left, try keeping them in a separate tank with unfiltered water and see how they do.

Hi

Well I have had all up 8 guppies, and out of my 8 I have only 3 surviving and I have one baby that was born NYE.

I dont know why mine all died in the 1st 2 weeks of having them, I was devistated and felt like I was a cruel person because my tank had killed them off.

But now, these 3 that are left plus baby are absolutley thriving. I had a angel die of fin rot and they never caught it either.

The LFS told me they were a very hardy fish, but my cousin has a huge tank for years now and refuses to buy guppies and told me not to buy them (but I did anyway) because he says they are so NOT hardy and die to easily.

Hmmm, I just dont know..
