Hi guys,
Which Livebearers can interbreed ie which from guppys, endlers, platys, swordtails and mollies can breed with each other, if at all possible?
Thanks,
Gazo

You'll find a lot of information (and debates!) scattered through the forums regarding this topic. I highly suggest you scroll around, maybe look in the hybrid forum... you'll get a lot of detailed information.

Guppy's can breed with endlers and mollies. And platy's can breed with swordtails.

Guppies and Endlers can: most guppies are bred with endlers these days for there colour.
Guppies and Mollies can: some have bred them but fry seem very weak and i have yet hear of one survive
Platies and Swordtails can: just look like long version platy i think but not as long as swords, males may have swords i think

thats it for the common ones :good:

in the genus of the guppies, endlers and mollies there are around 20 species of fish that is clorsely related and all could cross, but I always advise against crossing fish as a rule.

i have had balloon-belly-guppies! Its a mix between a guppy and a balloon molly lol the name kinda explains itself, but i thought it was a nice simple name to come up with ^_^

The ballon is a deformed body shape it's not a cross, this is why there several ballons species and not just livebearers.

sorry i had them a long time ago and i dont have them any more.. but they were very cute and they all had a black color on the botom half of their bodies and their fins were a metallic shiny silver color. Their bellies werent as round as the mollies, but they still had a big belly! They were bred from a time when i had two male guppies and two female balloon mollies in the tank.

Crikey, I'm not deliberately going to try it, its just my single male Sailfin Molly has starting doing his jiggy thing in front of my Guppy ladies - very impressive it is too!
