Live Rock

beat me to it ski!

just gotta remember that LR has to be kept in salt water all the way from the ocean floor to your tank other wise it wont be live rock when you get it and as you can imagine it aint an easy or cheap process hence the hefty price tag.

Is that so? Work recives all Liverock in 14KG boxes in damp, not wet, condition, with just plastic over it... Keeping it wet is only practicle on short journies, or where die-off needs to be reduced, as it does for moving from the LFS into an existing set-up. It is less important if you are going to cure it for a month or two after delivery again, just so long as it dos not completely dry out :good:

thats a bit picky, basically the LR has to be kept in salt water all be it damp or submerged, the only problem with keeping it damp is that there is a possabillity of die off, keeping it damp is only a good solution for small journeys ie from LFS - Home also alot of LR is imported uncured and cured in huge holding tanks in this country meaning it can be transprted dry to the UK then cured if its cured in the UK alot of places deliver it in damp conditions as its easier due to the short distances to LFS but if its brought in form abraod its just not a possibility as it would dry out, either way there is alot of work involved hence the price.

Sorry if I came across as "picky", it's just we get it in "damp" condition from work, i.e. lifted out of the vat it was in and chucked (well, there could be customers reading this, so gentely placed if you prefur...) into the box and covered in plastic. It is then sent by a curier to arrive 48 hours after packaging, assuming you ask for it to ship directly after they package it. Some suppliers will store it "damp" as descriped above for a few days to a couple of weeks before shipping... Neadless to say, if you aren't specific about the condition you want to recive it in, you often find you have a MASSIVE die-off with a phenominally long curing time...
