Live Rock Slime?

Okay this is what Tod had/has, so mines will eventually do that? the comments on Todd were it is too transluscent to be a spondge and more of something died off.

if thats the species i think it is...its bad...its a purple encrusting sponge and will cover his rocks in no time and restrict water flow through the rock.

If you are worried and think it is the same as Trod's, blow it off with a Turkey Baster.

If you think it looks more sponge like, believe me they do look weird, I have a fair few in my tank now, then leave them be. If they are sponges, they are filter feeders and a sign of a healthy tank.

If the live rock has come from a mature tank, it could well be sponges.

I'll give it a go with the baster, it looks very much like what Tod has just a much smaller scale or just starting up. Mines are all around the rocks. Tell me, if i left it will it get hard or just spread about more?

what are your water parameters

no it will just keep spreading so clean them with an old card

if its a sponge dont remove it

my water stats are fine, i just tested. i don't think a card would do it, the thing is like cobweb/slimmy. i went in with a brush and did a light scrub around, man what a mess in the water now. LOL

ammonia 0
nitrate 0
nitrite 0

it appeared to grow back LOL. I will now assume it is apart of some LR growing on that is normal.

OMG, i just did a water and sand cleanup. the glass was covered in that white slimy stuff, so was the surface of the sand! and one of my clowns looks slightly odd than usual. his mouth is open oddly and eyes look weird.

i just did a 50% water change!

May be a bacterial growth you've got..removal from the glass, rocks ,etc followed directly with a large water change should help to restrict it's growth...the symptoms on your clown would definately point to a bacterial infection...
If on u r post a query up for wombat and he will help you out with this problem very swiftly and gets it spot on 9 times out of 10...pm sent mate

here's another question. i was told to do water changes once a month since i got my setup last Dec. Could this be the cause, not enough water changes and sand cleanup? it's a 30gal 2 clowns 1 goby.

I'm not the best to advise anyone on water changes,lol...
think I remeber doing one of those,lol...

May be best to up them to a 10% a week for a short while to see if this helps to alleviate the slime growth...
If your stats are ok I wouldn't worry about stock , however to remove these slime culture it may help

i thought I'd post there here too, so you can see how exactly it looks.

Definately not a sponge as fluid and motile ...all sponges have structure either calcereous or silicate...
would still be prone to think either bacterial or dinoflagellates

i didn't think it was a spondge at all. should i scrub the rocks down in a bucket?
