live rock problem

i have a 75 gallon tank. on the backwall alittle left and alittle right of the center I have two powersweep powerheads (270 gph). the one does not sweep anymore and the other sweeps very slow and basically is all clogged up with coraline growth so it doesnt sweep to much. on the right side of the tank I have a maxi jet 900 (230 gph). on the backwall down towards the bottom shooting behind the rocks I have a maxi jet 600 (160 gph). the far left upper corner I have my sump return. at night everything is runnying ect the one powersweep. I am looking to upgrade my powerheads what are good ones and what ideas on placement are out there to combat my "dead spots"? also what do you mean by alternating? like a wavemaker?

be careful with wave makers. they are excellant ideas but they can also burn out a power head real fast as the motors are not designed for constant stoping and restarting.

Unless you want the rolls royce of power heads (Tunze Streams) then a maxijet is an excellant choice. never be afraid to put more flow through the tank.. some people have their tank with over 30x flow in it!

it was chemi-clean....and i would highly recommend this...i used it 1 week ago and w/in 12-24 hours everything was crystal clear....best of luck w/ this but i would definetly use the chemi clean.....much cheaper than a powerhead or other units.....also quicker...if perhaps money isnt an issue you could do both....this way the chemi clean will get rid of it quickly and the powerhead will prevent it from returning....best of luck

i found a new wave making diviece the other day it cost £369 and was this great bid block thing in the corner of the tank i think it was a tunze it had a big hole in the front with a grill across it, i think it works by sucking in the water and then pushing it out in rhythem hence the to of the water swaying like a wave it looks cool but if you over fill the tank your gonna get a wet floor :D i found something cool you might like it even has vids of it workingwave machine

the tunze wave maker is nice but you can only fill your tank 2/3 full or it will slop over the sides.

The besti have seen for wave making is the TUnze powerhead with a control unit. tunze power heads are designed to start and stop so they are perfect for this job.

you do need a morgage to have a set though :*)

alright the plan. I have ordered chemi clean to help get rid of the red alage. I have oredered phosban to help lower my phosphates. I have order a complete set of new powerheads. I have up my skimming to heavy (for now). How do you re-charge your sand bed. for a 75 gallon tank with about 2 to 2 1/2 inches of sand already in it.

if you have enough liverock then it will probably seed itself. you could ask at your local shop if you could take a cup full of their sand from the invert tanks or perhaps ask for some liverock rubble that lies at the bottom of their liverock tanks.

That wave maker looks pretty cool, whats the difference between that and the tunze wavemaker?, as that seems a nearly full tank like mine, and it didnt seem to make any big wave to pour over. Also, what would be better, a wavemaker or a tunze stream setup?, I have 2 6100's on order, i already have the multi-controller (£80 off ebay, brand spanker :p ), but theres a wave maker for sale in a lfs. Oooh, what to do!!!.
Oh!, while im here, if i did get one of the above, should i keep my maxijets still going? with the other pumps and the streams this would give me a max turnover of 54 times :D :D :D , or is that too much?

the tunze looks good but its a bit pricey and the other looks a bit ugly if you can hide the motor that runs it i would go for the wave maker ive seen the tunze running and it looks like a seesaw (spelling?) which would spill all the water out if it went wrong

leon, keep with the streams, far more flexible and if the flow is too high you can turn them down
