I have had my 58 litre tank for a week now and everything seems happy (my clown fish and cleaner shrimp) and I have noticed the rock becoming a brown rusty color. When I originally put it in it was a chalky white colour with some light brown markings. My mushroom coral has not been affected either.

Is this normal or should I be worried. It doesnt appear to be creating a problem but I thought I should ask the professionals.

Thanks Guys

sounds like diatoms to me, nothing to worry about in itself, but a sign your tank has only just cycled in most cases

how long has the tank been running / what are the basic water stats (ammonia / nitrite / nitrate)?

It has been cycling for 9 days with the the rock in the whole time. The levels are going to be checked this weekend when i get a testing kit.

If i get some cleaners like hermits or snails will that help?

Am i in danger of loosing my fish

Test kit should be top of the shopping list when setting up a tank, livestock at the bottom.

Eventually, depending on test results.

Potentially, and your shrimp, although if they've also been in for 9 days, you might have got away with it if the rock was well cured and not out of the water for long.

If would get the test kits asap or failing that get some of your tank water to the LFS and get them to test it.

Do you know the SG of the water?

IM getting my testing kit tomorrow. My LFS said it would n#be ok to add a fish after 1 week of it cycling. He is going to test my water and let me know what I need to do.

I dont know what SG means, sorry.

specific gravity i do believe

it means the salt level in your water, like 1.023 ect.
