Live food for dummies

I just use plain oats mixed up with hot water for my micro worms. I don't bother dechlorinating the water. It's important to add the water a bit at a time as you can easily overdo it. It's a bit difficult to explain what the texture should be, I just know when it's right. Once the mixture has cooled I sprinkle a bit of dried yeast and then add a drop of the old microworm culture. It takes a week or so to get up to speed from a tiny drop. Never had any issues with mould. The culture does smell quite vinegary after a while. I start a new culture when the existing one starts to be less productive, i.e. there are not very many worms crawling up the sides of the container. I also encourage fruit flies to lay their eggs in the same culture so there's quite often a few tiny maggots in the mix as well.

I use this for BBS. Works great. Not really for those who need lots of BBS, but if you have a couple of nano tanks then it's perfectly sufficient and very easy. I do not work for Hobby!

I have a dumb question.
Does anyone else dechlorinate the water when preparing live food cultures? Like the coconut fiber for grindal worms or the instant mashed potatoes or oatmeal for microworms.
I've been doing that but I'm not sure if it's actually necessary.

I would… or use water from tank changes

I've never dechlorinated my tap water when culturing micro worms or hatching BBS. I get plenty of both. Everyone's tap water is different though.

My mosquito bins are really murky and green. So now I have two questions.
First one is what if I bought some daphnia and threw them in? Would that be sustainable?
And I'm getting other creatures. Mostly bloodworms. And these slugs. Can someone ID this slug?
