I'm in the process of cycling my new tank, without any fish you'll all be pleased to know, and tonight I've noticed lots of very small white worms on the inside of the glass. I've checked for any other threads to this problem and it seems that they are called planaria. But 'cos I've got no fish in the tank, I'm obviously not over feeding them, so where the hell did they come from ??
I also have snails in there which I assume have come off one of my plants, and have meds in there to sort them out.
Any help or advice with the worms though would be great. :)

As you have said the worms are planarian worms and are harmless but i would be worried as to why they are there, unless you have added something which they can eat they shouldnt be there. Did you cycle the tank by adding a few pinches of flake?

Hi CFC
Thanks for a quick reply. No I haven't put anything in the tank to help it along. The only things in the tank are sand, plants, a bit of bogwood(boiled and soaked for 3 weeks) and the snails !

The only thing i can imagine is that the planarians are surviving on snail poo  , with no fish to keep them down they have managed to get to a visable number. Once you add fish they will soon eat them all.

Thanks for that CFC.
I've just remembered that when I put the meds in to kill the snails, I took the carbon out of the filter(fluval 3 plus). When I switched the filter back on it chucked out a lot of bits from the sponges. Could this be where the worms have come from?
