Little Update On My 55g Reef

Why not keep the Queen Angel, and get base rock (or homemade rock) instead of live? After that, you just need a pair of 400 watt 'industrial' metal halides, and you're set. :good:

I'm confused as to why you would want to get rid of such a beautiful fish. That is unless you absolutely have to.

I know the queen angel is beautiful but I don't want it!! It is already 25cm++ and although it must be eating prepared foods to have reached this size (he has had it for 5yrs) I really don't want to have the responsibility of feeding it in the future. I am well aware that adults eat sponges and tunicates in the wild and there is a real possibility that at some point in the future it may starve while in my care. I would much rather give it to a public aquarium where it will have plenty of room and expert care. Many more people will be able to admire it too.

Anyway...I don't want any coral eaters in my tank. I know the wrasse may have a nibble and my cowfish is taking a liking to picking at my leather corals but no more coral eaters allowed!!! I also don't want big fish in my tank. My cowfish will need a big tank before much longer as she is growing like mad, even a 125gal will be too small for her eventually so no more big fish will be added, not even triggers or tangs. It will be a softy reef with small reef friendly fish.

Give them both to me :hyper:

j/k

One of these days though, I'll have a tank big enough for a queen angel.

Can you perhaps rustle up enough buckets to take all or at least most of its old tank water when you pick it up?

That will be the plan. It's not definate that I'll get the tank or the fish yet. He has it advertised and has said if it doesn't sell by the end of the week I can have it cut price. If I don't get this tank then I will probably get a slightly bigger one custom built. I'm thinking 7'/7.5'x2'x2' with a 50gal+ sump and 30gal fuge. Either way I'm having a softy reef with a big euphyllia section. It will be a coral tank rather than a fish tank. I'll keep my fish and add a few more chromis to make a bigger group maybe some anthias, another wrasse and a couple of nice clowns (not percula or ocellaris)

I'd love to own a Humu or Clown trigger but not at the expense of any corals or smaller peaceful fish  Plus I already have a longhorn cowfish. Can you imagine what would happen to my beautiful tank if a fast and relatively agressive trigger decided to pick on my slow swimming, peaceful cowfish. It's a chance I'mjust not willing to take. Although a Volitans lion is a temptation I may not be able to resist....even though I know it's probably a stupid thing to put in.....I want one soooooo bad

wow i'm so jealous, i really want a bigger marine tank. no chance for a while yet though :-(

well unless Ian breaks the tank when he's drilling it and we ummm can't find one the same size  don't think i'll get away with that though really

hehe I hold the purse strings in our house

I am getting the biggest tank I can. If I didn't have to keep a sofa in the room I'd have an even bigger L shaped tank

Actually my MTS is running away with me at the moment as I just bought ANOTHER (smaller) tank to house some of my freshwater fish so I can use their tank for dwarf puffers  I had to tell softlad that I'm only buying another tank so Carys can have one in her bedroom :p Nothing to do with me wanting more tanks... :fun:

we've been really disciplined the last 6 months actually, closed down a few tanks, all we're thinking of is that we want to do the house up and move, and decorating around fishtanks is a complete nightmare, let alone renovating! So we're trying to reduce the tanks we have now to make things easier, then when we move we can let the MTS take hold!! ;)

Unfortunately, much to my distress, one of the conditions attached to getting a bigger tank is that I have to close down my 2 other SW tanks and ........

:-( :-( :-( SELL THEM :-( :-( :-(

I have been allowed to keep one FW tank, which will be my puffers, but only if I keep them in my 30gal and not move them into the 55gal like I wanted to

I have also had to agree to not getting a brackish tank or a rift community tank. I also had to grudgingly agree not to start the paludarium I've been planning for years so no newts and tree frogs for Sian :-( :-( Oh and I'm not getting my seahorses anymore...

Although why anybody believed me when I was agreeing I really don't know. You just know I'm still going to get all the tanks I want, I might just have to aquire them and get them filled and cycling before anybody notices :shifty:

exactly, you've agreed to it.... for now.... bet you in 6 months they won't remember what you said you could or couldn't do! :hey:

6 months!!! God no!! 6 weeks is being optimistic  I am planning the next 7 or 8 tanks now :hey:

Well, if you're worried about aggression, why not get a Melichthys or Xanthichthys trigger? They are nearly as aggressive as a Firefish in my experience...
