Well my betta, Sori, while I was out of the house, gorged himself on food intended for my cories. It was a sinking algae chip. I left the house, came home two hours later, and Sori looks quite as if he's swallowed a marble.
So far, he seems to be swimming fine, just sitting down a lot. His belly is huge! White and distended and round. More than he's ever eaten, ever. At first, I couldn't figure out what happened to him, but that seems like it'd be the only way he could have gotten so big, so fast. It's not bloat like dropsy, and he's not acting like he's got swim bladder... he just looks like he's eaten twice his weight in algae waffer.
It seems that he's swollen up a little more since I first came home -- you know, the chip expanding as it becomes moist.
At what point should I become concerned about my stupid pig's welfare?
I'm pretty sure there's nothing I can do for him, but wait for it to 'pass' (ba dum ching).
However, since I wasn't here when it occured, and I've been gone for 2-4 hours (can't remember when I left home), I'm not 100% sure that's what caused it. Especially since he's not trying to eat the wafer any further. I'm staring at him a lot. He's enjoying the attention.
On the bright side, he's fine with my new cories. Not bothering them at all. He was really interested them for the first 30 minutes they were floating in the bag. After that, he apparently decided they were boring and started to ignore them.
