thnx luke thet starter kit is a bit big for the tank so ill go out in the week to look for a smaller kit thnx and maybe some more plants.

do you think it would look better if i bought a small rainbow rock stuck it in the middle and had plant going all around it?

Yea, bit big but you're LFS may have some (mine unfortunatly dont).

Not sure mate, its you're tank, and its worth experimenting as you wont know what looks good without trying it.
If you do get lighting, you might want to add co2, but you'll come to that bridge in a bit, so to speak lol..

I don't mind in the least! That's why we're all here isn't it? To give each other ideas?
One thing I can say for sure is to NOT get the regular vals...they get so big, too big for little tanks like ours. Instead try twisted val, crypts, java fern, java moss, etc...and yeah, I think if you were to put a piece of java fern in the bettas cave (in the hole) it would look really nice and eventually will grow all over the cave.


As far as the light, is this a standard rectangular 4g or is it bowfront??? I'm wondering if you can't buy just the regular hood with light if it's a standard type tank or perhaps one of those clip on lights for the odder shaped tank.....

I think your tank is starting to look real good and I'm sure your betta loves it!!

it is a small 4gal bowfront, ill see how the vallis gets on then if it grows too big it will go in my 20gal, as for other plants i will get 2 small java ferns to go in each corner but will have to find a small clip on light
