Liquoric Gourami identifying

I think it's going to be hard to get a precise ID on these guys partially because there are probably some undescribed species being imported.

See if the seriouslyfish page helps with the ID at all --> https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/parosphromenus-sp-sentang/

There is another possible fish it could be which is P. sp. 'blue line', another undescribed species.
Probably highly likely, however, not sure whether blue line and sentang have red on their fins, which these do.

There was like 60+ undescribed species.

Going to get in contact with the supplier to try and get further details as to their locations of capture if wild caught.

Fishbase has most species though I cannot say how up to date they are. Seriously Fish has much more information on a species, but newer species will not likely be included.

If you are solely interested in valid species, the best resource is the Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes maintained by the California Academy of Sciences. Every described species of fish is listed, with a complete record of scientific articles/papers relating to the taxonomy of the species.

The listing is alphabetical by species epithet since this is the name that very rarely will change, with the genus following. Then the original description, followed by all reference works affecting or confirming the species taxonomy. Finally the accepted scientific name "valid as...". As an example, the three species in Paracheirodon:

axelrodi, Cheirodon Schultz [L. P.] 1956:42, Fig. [Tropical Fish Hobbyist v. 4 (no. 4); ref. 12224] Stream near Tomar, Rio Negro, near Porto Velho, Brazil. Holotype: USNM 164483. Great, thanks

One reason killiekeepers tend to like licorice gouramis (and wine Bettas too) is the mysterious evolutionary complexity they stick in front of us. If you don't have the location the fish came from, your chances of ever identifying it sink very low. I've kept a few of these fish, and from your photos, I'm stumped.

Digging through the Parasphromenus project website could help.

I was looking at a wholesaler list last week, contemplating them, and there were a lot listed. The old trick of seeing what was being sold and narrowing down from there isn't working anymore! There are too many possibilities.

Oh, I know. Best hope I had was the indo list, which pulled through. These were the only ones on the list. Going to try and get that location, but no guarantee as more of a simple supplier then specialist.

Have been, some seem similar but just getting some other opinions on them first.

Yeah, lists are huge!! (love it for that, and also gets annoying for the same reason. They are weekly reading for me.)
