Lionfish

mine are volitans, they get BIG! youll need a 75gallon at least when they are fully grown, but that takes a while

i used to have 3 huge ones in a 7ftx3ftx3ft with a foot long panther grouper, was great just watching them glide about.

there are loads of different types of lionfish, 22 in fact i think.
ive always gone for volitans though myself :)

they like to sit about a lot, so lots of ledges are ideal :)
compatible tank mates are other large fish, some triggers and tangs etc. dont trust your first judgement on what can fit in their mouth lol, youd be surprised at how much they can gulp down!!

awesome fish, amazing to watch and will always be my fave! ill be putting some more pics up tomorrow, he is moving around a lot more now too.

Look stunning. There my dream fish if i ever go marine.

Saw a documentary a few days ago that featured these and I really want one now as well. What size tank would you say is best for one? Or do they do best in groups?

Yours look amazing!

I did a bit of research on these when i got back from holiday after seeing a load of them when snorkling and Dendrochirus zebra/Dwarf lion or Dwarf zebra lion seem one of the best for small tanks since they only get 6" so a 30-40G would work.

some of the smaller ones can be very nice pets too, but ive always thought of them as giant fish :D
i have kept variuus dwarf sepcies before, from fuzzies to fu manchu.

always found fu manchus to be more aggrexive towards other fish, even larger ones, very pretty fish though

heres some more pics :)
these are better though lol

very very very nice indeed.

What plant life have you got growing on the rocks? Nice to see in a marine aquarium.

:) thankyou

its just various types of caulerpa ad cheato. my reef tank needs some gardening every week and the offcuts get put in here to spread and cover my rocks. too many aiptasia in this tank though :(

looking for a large-ish tasseled filefish to get tid of them, and wondering if peppermint shrimps are too big for my lion to eat lol

I was going to suggest peppermint shrimp to clean up the aiptasia but you bring a good point of whether the lion fish can eat it or not, haha. Your lion fish look amazing! Any chance they could breed? I don't know much about them.

as far as i know and can find, they have never been bred in captivity before :( would be cool, although one is a lot bigger than the other lol
