Lily Thinks She Fits In Box

What type of Diabetes is it? And is "my pet is sick" a good enough reason to get out of Jury Duty? ;)

Correcting what I said before - we don't actually give the gel directly any more, we put it down in a small amount of food (they are always waiting for their food) and then put down the rest when done.

Not sure, I was too shocked at the diagnosis to really get specifics, and if my vet gave me specifics, I was honestly like done computing anything he told me after "your cat has diabetes", so I'll learn more when I come back Monday to remove Buckwheat's cath. No, "my pet is sick" is not listed as an excuse to get out of jury duty.

He's taken oral antibiotics before, so that's not too hard. I'm more worried about the insulin shots, but he's used to mommy poking and prodding, so he might be just dumb enough not to complain--er too much. He's resting comfortably in our Florida room. It's nice and warm, he can muck it up all he wants, and he's away from the other pets.

I am a dobermann once who had the same thing - had to inject him x 2 a day - he couldn't have cared less as long as he got his little piece of cheese after! I on the other hand hated every single minute!!

Good luck, it really only takes a couple of times to get used to puting the needle in and often they don't even now you have done it!

Why do cats feel the need to squeeze into boxes, especially shoe boxes, reminds me so much of my kitties

My cat has the urge to sleep in a morrisons bag at the moment,he has several beds dotted around, but no he'd rather sleep in a 'bag for life' i wonder if i can take it back after he's clawed it to pieces for a replacement :p

I do hope buckwheat will be ok,i have a cat thats on steroids everyday due to be anaemic etc,and one of the side effects of the pills can cause diabetes, just hope he doesn't go that far...

Good luck with your kitty :good:

Thanks to everyone for their kind words and support. :thanks:

I was banking on Buckwheat's stupidity and he delivered. He is blissfully unaware of the injections. I love my little moron. My still scar-free arms love him as well.

Still not sure what type of diabetes he has, though I have learned that he is on the really young end for this disease, since it mostly effects older cats, but he is a high risk group, being a neutered male that is indoors.

An update. Buckwheat's been doing well with the injections and medications. He is the "darling" of the clinic staff. Unfortunately, his glucose levels are tricky to stabilize. He will probably need a glucose curve tomorrow. Sigh...

Thank you all for your continued support. My little moron means a lot to me, and I will not give up on him.
