Can someone point me in the direction of what size and type of light I require.

I't going in a 55l tanks, 1 foot, by 2 foot by 1 foot.

I'm not planning to have a heavily plnted tank, just no idea what I need.

Cheers.

Also, some keys words for an ebay search wouldn't go a miss.

What type of tank is it? Make? Stocking of fish?

If you go with arcadia they do loads of lights for aquariums

Just a tank I was given. I think it's a clearseal by the looks of things. If not, it's very similar.

No fish in yet.

Just want an idea of size/power for a 2*1*1 foot tank with a few plants.

Just checked out my 2.5f x 1.5f x 1f (20g) and there's a 25 watt lamp on it if that helps. As I said, Arcadia do a great range of lamps for aquaria. I tried looking in B&Q and online for aquarium lamps but they are all standard sizes, whereas it seems most aquariums are non-standard, probably on purpose so you have to spend more money!

Right then, I have bought a Arcadia light starter unit/contoleer. Think that will let me run a 18" tube which, size wise should be spot on.

But, now I'm stuck again. What bulb? T5, T8 Tsomethingelse. Confused now.

Also, when searching on lights, there is alot of tank on adding C02, am I missing something? I have a few plants, but nothing major.

Cheers,

Cramman

If you have just a few plants and are more into fish than actual aquascaping then I wouldn't worry about it because fish don't need co2 (you probably knew that). If you do want to go for a heavily or moderately planted tank then you might want to consider some type of co2, preferably pressurized.

If your plants are growing and look healthy you probably don't need anything, but if they're looking unhealthy (brown and ugly or clear and wilted) you might want to consider getting some type of fertilizer such as Seachem Flourish to dose every 2-3 days.

Any questions about plants check out the planted tank forum.

Cheers for that. I'll just keep an eye on the plants and see what happens.
I thought there would be enough C02 comming in from the air pumps etc.

The light unit I went for is this one,

Just bought a T8 Aquaglow 18". Hopefully that will be fine, if not I can return it.

Cheers.
