I am currently looking for a better flourcent bulb for my 29G tank. The tank is mildly planted with some livebearers. I was thinking, since its a planted tank, do I need to get like at least 60W for my aquarium? or maybe just a T5 14W bulb.

The VHO 24" I've looked at are 75W....(not really considering)
I really dont get it. Is 14W even come close to enough for a planted tank?

like the one here. http://www.bigalsonline.ca/BigAlsCA/ctl366...700kplantlamp24

well it really depends on what sort plants you have, and weather if you want them to grow. one single 14 W T5 is definitely not enough light for a good planted tank. Should consider higher wattage for 29 Gallon. aim for something like 1-2Watt per gallon if you want easy maintenance. any higher and you will need co2.

i run 85watts over my 29gal and can grow plants well.
