I'm just a newby with a tank that still hasn't got any fish in it, so maybe this is a really stupid question. But is there any piece of equipment apart from the full blown aquarium computer that will control lighting on a timer and a dimmer? I know you can just plug your ballasts into a separate timer, but is there anything that will control the dimmer? I'd like to simulate dawn/daylight/dusk and possibly moon lighting, without going as far as adjusting it all for moon cycles and seasonal changes. I know the new T5 lights can be used with dimmers, but don't know any way to control it so it comes up to full power gradually over half an hour or so in the morning and off gradually at night.

Anyone got any ideas? My main factor is cost, if I had the dough I'd buy the aquarium computer thingy and let it do all the chemistry for me!!
