Hello everyone

I have a small 6 gal tank.

The light doesnt work and a replacement hood is £25 but will take at least 4 weeks to come.

I am wondering if I can make one ??
What light fiting will I need to buy and how will I fix it into the Hood.

Can anyone help Please

Thanks Will

You can make a hood out of wood. it is simply a rectangle frame with a lid. Then you can put a fluoro light unit in it. Use a couple of screws to hold the light unit to the frame. The light unit and wood can be obtained from most hardware stores. The only issue is wiring up the light unit. A sparky/ electrician is needed for this.

For a small tank, you could use compact flourescent lamps... also know as "energy saving lamps" these are true flourescent lamps AND control gear in one... and are really cheap at the moment... if you just want "white" Morissons were doing them for 10p !!!!!!!
You can but a waterproof fitting, or arrange for the socket to be outside the hood... or even add a glass screen to your hood - to seperate water and light !

Thanks for the replies,

The tank is bow fronted so I dont know if wood would be ok.

I'll go to my LFS and see what light fitings hey have and how I can attach it.

You are missing the point - you DONT "need" to buy this from a fish shop !
