I was curious, I bought an aquarium and it came with a lightstrip. It appears to have a halogen bulb, and I have no idea if this is plausible, but can I theoretically put in any bulb I desire? The light is orange, and has low wattage, and I was wanting to switch to preferably this..

Does that bulb fit into the same fitting? If so then it's probably ok, but worth checking that the output from the power supply is 120V

Could anything adverse happen if I don't? I don't even recall seeing any sort of indication of power outtage... it just plugs right in, it seems very generic.

Only 2 things that could happen although unlikely are the bulb dies straight away or the power supply dies.

As long as the bulb is the correct fitting, it is likely to be ok. I assume you're in America so will have 110V mains supply, so is it just a switch or is there a ballast/trasformer somewhere on the way?
