Lighting ideas

[Miss Dib Dabs]

I'm currently setting up a 48" by 12" by 15" tank for three pictus cats and as yet undecided tankmates. Has silver sand substrate, an external filter, will have live plants aplenty.
What I need to know is what lighting to use? It has none whatsoever as yet and will need a whole unit. But I'm feeling the pinch financially right now and don't wanna spend mad on the lighting. Although I do want decent lighting for it.
Can you help?

was looking to build a DIY hood - not learn about lighting

No hon, he was right. I have a hood, just no lighting or a good fixture for one (the current one is obviously old and I shall take it out tomorrow).
Don't worry tho, I still think yer brilliant.
