Lighting-have I Done The Right Thing

In my rio 180 i did have a flora glo and an aqua glo tube standard juwel t8 lighting 2x36" 30w bulbs
the flora glo was 2400 k and the aqua glo was 18000 k
i thought the tank looked a bit dark cos the light weasn't penetrating through my floating plants very well so i changed the back bulb to a
marine white 18000k and now the tank is a lot lighter running with the both the
marine white 18000k and the aquaglo 18000 k and now my plants that are lower in the tank are getting more light and my floating plants are growing huge

have i dont the right thing

From what I understand, picking what bulb (color wise) is pretty much personal preference.

However, 18000K is getting up there in the spectrum, and the plants might have a harder time at utilizing the energy at this level, but not always the case.

I actually had a 18000K bulb, then I brought it back and got a 2400K bulb.

I am going to be getting another bulb, so I will have a 2400K and a 18000K bulb, that way you get best of both worlds.

But a 2400K bulb is lower on the spectrum, which plants will be able to utilize the energy a little easier.

But, you will be fine, like I said above, it is really what color of light you want.

NOTE: Picking bulbs according to the "K" rating is a very controversial subject, and you are probably going to get more replies to this thread that will say different.

But you will be okay with the 18000K bulb. IMO of course, we will see what other people say....

the chances are the bulbs you took out were old right?

as tubes get older, they dull, and the spectrum starts to drift.

it probably just appears that theyre brighter, when the originals when new were probably just as bright

no the bulbs i removed werent old i got them end of november
