I'm going to be planting my 18 tall soon but I'm having trouble figuring out how to get enough light on it. The hood size is the same as a ten gallon. Right now the tank has 2, 15W incandescent bulbs. I was looking online for double and triple tube flourescent hoods but they start at 24 and 26 inches, the ones that don't are way out of my price range  .

Would these work?

yup ! those would work i guess ! and its better because CF's tends to focus light downwards ( well depending on your housing, the one im using focuses the light kinda ) o ya the best thing i learned about CF's is they are sooo plug and play when you go DIY, as compared to normal fluorescent tubes

It should work well for low light plants. It's not bright enough for plants that require medium light, however. To keep low light plants, the tank need to be lightly stocked with fish. Otherwise you get over run by algae.

i just got a 96w coral life set up for my 18g it fitson there perfect i havent started trying to grow plants but it should work well as bright as it seems
