Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how often each day i should have my tank light on for? I've got a couple of live plants and just a few fish. I've got a 24 hour timer as well. The tank isn't near direct sunlight

thanks!

12-14 hours if you have live plants, less if you don't or they have low light needs, i.e. java fern, so around 10-12 hours.

Suggest you keep them on for not more than 10hrs in a day. Also switch off the lights for a period of 15-20 mins after about every 3-4hrs as this disrupts the photosynthesis activity for algae.

i leave them on 12 hours a day.
9:30 am to 9:30 pm

algea doesn't grow very fast but i will be getting myself some algea eaters anytime now to eat up whatever grows

I have mine on 12 hrs a day.
I have no algea probs in any tank and most tanks are fully planted.
