as i mentioned, i just bought a baby biOrb, which is a 4 gal tank shaped in a big crystal ball. the tank comes with a light and i wonder if in the evening, does it help to leave the light on throughout the night until when i get up in the morning for the betta?

is there any benefit for him/her with the light on during the night?

or is it best to also shut the light off so he/she can get some sleep?

leaving the light on doesn't bother me but i am not sure if it is good overall for the betta.

****

i am sure i will have many more questions but this one seems to be my most pressing one for now.

good night......

No, switch the light off over night, it'll heat your water too much if left on constantly.
Also stress your betta out something awful.
And potentially result in extra algae build up.
Welcome to the forum :p

well my concern for now is that i don't have a heater.....

am ordering one....

but i like to keep the home at 68 degrees at night.....

the aquarium with light on has been able to manage at about 76-78 degrees.

so i was thinking that the light helps keep the water warm for him.

i'll turn it off tonight and check the temp thru the night and in the morning when i wake up.

thanks.

Well, if you're concerned about the water temperature dropping too low I see no harm in keeping it on until you get him a heater. I don't think the water temperature would drop that quickly either. Water takes longer to heat and cool than land (said the meteorology major). You can try both ways: see what the temperature is overnight when the light is on, and see what it reads if you were to turn it off. He should be fine either way, but in the long run a heater and lights out time is best! :hyper:

i left my light on one of my bettas for 3 days cause the heater blew up and the betta didnt seem at all bothered so until you get the heater it shouldnt really matter for a few days.
Good Luck.

I have 14 bettas I have one in my bedroom that I leave light on overnight so when I can't sleep I lay and watch her the rest have lights on during the day. The only I found is my tank is acrylic, the reflection at night will make the male fish stress out and be trying to fight all night. I don't worry about algae because I have a lot of plants and a snail in there with her. don't have heaters in my tanks since I keep the temp about 72 to 78 degrees for my comfort and none are on outside walls.

you will find most fish dont really care about light that much, you generally have it in a tank for your benefit so you can see them better, or for plants. i dont see a problem with leaving the light on, except algae growth with you can clean out anyway :)

Why not put the light on at night when the temp cools,So say its 25degrees in the day it will stay roudn that temp at night. And wont stress the fish to much with having the light on to mucha and water droping and rising all the time :good:

I turn the light off for the night. I have the light on from the afternoon 'till I go to bed then I turn it off so I can rest and so they can rest. I've noticed Harry's (one of my Bettas) water has been much wamrer since I turned the light on for him. Same with Toby. Sushi's water and Melody's water stay stable though, closer to cooler temperatures. But they don't seem to mind.
