this morning i woke up and looked at my fish and my platy just on one side of her head had her scales lifted up. she was fine lastnight. at first i thought she just had something on her but when i looked closer i noticed some scaled were lifted up. is this something to worry about? if it is what should i do?

here are some pictures of her....

Not sure what might cause this ... Add Malafix to avoid bacterial infection

Can't really make out the damage on the pics, have scales gone missing or are they still attached?
If i'm making it out right, its on the gill?

Maybe a possible tumour.

Is it behind the gill plate or is it behind that more?

its more or less kinda near the top of her head and not really on the gill. but the scales are still there they are just lifted up. is she going to be ok? :-( do i need to get her medication if so what kind do you recomend? and its strange all my other fish in the tank seem to be rubbing them selfs on everything is this a sign that they might get it too?

What does it look like under the scales?
Are there any lumps, tufts of anything....
I know that in Livebearers you have been advised to treat for dropsy (which is difficult as dropsy can have numerous different causes) but its really hard to tell from the pics.
As modaz suggested in the other thread (whether it is dropsy or not) keeping the water and tank absolutely perfect is essential, if it is bacterial dropsy it could be passed to other fish throudh infected faeces, if its related to the osmoregulatory system then perfect tank cons will really help the fish.
Don't treat with epsom until you are entirely certain what the illness is although the use of a general med (modaz again) is worth while.
If the fish begins to bloat, do perform an epsom bath.
Also try feeing the affected fish a little pea, but no flake etc for now.

It's possibly some sort of fluke or worm thats dug itself under certain scales and is growing off the blood supply thus enlarging and raising the scale thats covering it. If you can see under the scale and this looks like a possibility, parasitic meds are a must to remove them.

yeah i posted in two threads hoping that i will have an answer sooner rather than later in case someone was looking in one and not the other and i didnt know witch thread to post it in so i put it in both.

under the scales it looks like her color witch is a whitish color. its not red or anything like i thought it would look like under the scales. but none of the other fish seem to be infected. tomorrow i will get an all around medication like suggested in the other thread. should i take her out of the tank and put her in her own tank? i read up on dropsy and it said a symptom was bloating. could this also be why i thought she was pregnant? i will try to get better pictures of her to show you.

There are three types of dropsy diagnosis....Take a look here! That will explain dropsy and it's three ways that it shows itself.

P.S. I know it's a goldfish site but it works just as well for other fish!

this is the best i got so far tomorrow i will try to get better pictures my camera is dead right now hopefully this helps a little more.

thank you so much for all you help!

From that picture above. It almost looks like he is just trying to lose a scale. My goldfish looked like that once. And then he dropped his scale and another one started to grow back. Maybe that is what your fish is trying to do.

Is it possible she could have rubbed against something that caused her scale to get ruffled?

yes its possible i guess but im not sure thats what it is....although it could be but what if its not and i dont take action now and then by the time i relize its not its to late to medicate her? should i take her out of the tank as a precaution anyways?
