Hi im new to the hobby!! If my water stays dead on how long can fish like tangs or clowns live in a 60 g tank ???? Thanks

Clowns are known to go 5+ and Tangs can live 10+ years. Thats just rough though. ALOT more fish have lived alot older.

Ive searched for the thread on RC, but havnt found it. A member there has had a tang for absolute years. Im talking 10+ :) Its so old and tattered.

I believe it was a 20 yr old yellow tang. Just goes to show how long fish can live in the right environment!

Tangs will live up to 20-25 years as long as the conditiions are right. A 60 gallon system will drastically shorten its lifespan however. You should get 7-8 years out of clowns too. Remember however that these fish will grow and a 6 year old clown/12 year old tang is a completely different size of fish than the fish that are seen on display in your lfs which are caught pupossefully on the small side to lower the cost of shipment. Of course most shops dont warn the newcomer that these lovely tiny yellow tangs @ 2 inches will one day reach 10 inches or greater

wow thats great never new they can go so long !!! I plan on 150 gal as soon as i find a house in the next few years !

A store that breed there own perc clowns here has had the same breeding pair for 10 years now. It really depends on how you treat them.
