I know as a rule on here LFs get a bad time but I just thought I'd ask if any one has any good experiences. I have had bad in the past but have found a great LFS myself. They recommend fish even if they don't have them, they told me I couldn't buy a fish that I wanted because as they were about to net it they spotted white spot on another fish in the tank and wrote quaratine on it then and there! They never sell any fish they get until 2 and a half weeks later. I have bought over 20 fish(not alot in most peoples cases, i know) from there and there still swimming happily in my tank.

I just think that perhaps we should recommend ones that we have good experiences with. (can we do that?)

omg i have just placed a post up about mine.... lol

I can only sing the praises of Ace Aquatics in Ashford, Kent.

Never a word of bull doodoo, never a piece of bad advice.

That's the difference between a small family run place and a branch of a big corporation.

All of the guys and gals at Ace have been fish keepers for longer than they care to admit.

Top marks all round :good:

Mines in Gravesend, swallow Aquatics, There is a few branches in kent and I don't know about the rest but the Gravesend one is great will even give you advice over the phone!

Southern Aquatics, Cadnam, Dorset or Hampshire - not sure which, England.

Nice there. Wide variety of fish, correct information. They even have large plecos, carnivorous cichlids, arowana, piranha, puffers, ropefish and every single popular fish you can think of including most common barbs, neons, cardinals, loads of types of catfish including both albino and normal bristlenose (ancistrus) plecos.
They also have loads of marine things, and something which i didn't like in fact was that they had a great barracuda there, i mean, who has a tank to hold a barracuda?? But they have clowns, all sorts of coral, anenomes, every popular sea fish, including stone fish and moray eels.

They also have bogwood, loads of plants, reptiles, every sort of fish food known to man, books, a 1500 litre tank

The people there seem nice, it's always really busy, and i go there even though it's much farther away than some other lfs's.

I've got a couple nice ones about an hour away from me. I don't go there often, but they are the only shops I will buy fish from. Both are a couple miles from the Minneapolis International airport. Both are private owned shops

My favorite one is A World of Fish, Its a small store that is filled with tanks. I don't think they can fit anymore in there. They carry quite a few rarer species, they don't quarantine much at all though. I think its only the more expensive fish that get quarantined. Disease is more likely, but most tanks are run individually and they will not sell fish from tanks with clear signs of disease. Overall the fish tend to be healthy. Employees really know there stuff! I shot a video a while back of the store, but I missed 2 areas in the video the front which has around 50 ten gallon tanks and the main saltwater room with lots of tanks including a 400 gallon tank. You can see the video here

Second is Aqualand, video here. Much more roomier and fish are always healthy. But they carry more common fish and are mainly freshwater. Home to a mata mata turtle named Lynda-at the end of the video. She does have a much larger tank now than she did in the video.

Botley Aquatics and Reptiles.

Brilliant shop, friendly guys and they have a good stock of BN's thanks to me!!! Know their stuff and are reasonably priced.

If you time your arrival on the right day you can watch the snakes being fed, this is IMO very interesting!

I take it that's Botley near Fareham then? In the high street? Might just have to visit!

Yeap thats that place. Just before you get to the roundabout that leads to the high street hook a left. To be clearer its the road that runs by the side of the new texco petrol station, opposite the road into Headge End.

There is a garden center down on the right about 1/4 mile down. The shop is in the right hand corner.

Enjoy! They have some pretty cheap tanks at the mo too!!!!

Every LFS will tell you something different...I found if you do your own research you can buy from anyone cause you will definately know more... :good:
