Sounds reasonable - about average price for that setup. WalMart basically has the same thing going, but maybe $5-10 more.

You just have to ask yourself if you really want that filter and heater.

If you plan on getting different hardware later on, then go to a PetsMart or shop around on the net. I guarantee you can get a 55g with hood for $100 or maybe even a little less. If that's ideal for you, then the extra $50 you can put toward the equipment you really want even though you will be spending more.

Yup. that hardware with the kit will definitely get the job done, but if you want an external canister or different kind of filter, then go with just the tank.

It's all personal preference. For example I like heaters with the temp on the dial so I can just set it and leave it alone forever, so I would go with just the tank. However, the kit is very cost effective.

That sounds reasonable, what brand heater and where are you going to get it???
I got a 55g combination from PetsMart with all of the same stuff but the heater was a 300w visatherm.
It came with the same filter as yours, which I did'nt like and wanted to replace so I returned it with out a receipt and the money I got back was for the original price of the filter by its self.
Depending on where you are buying it from, maybe you can talk them it to up grading the filter and heater, that is if you are not content with all of the componanents of that combo....
