hey how do i level a large tank?

My one tank recently broke due to an unleveled surface. what do i do to keep that from happening?

to avoid tanks breaking due to slight faults in the level of the surface put a layer of polystyrene under the tank.

I see i see.. Should i shim the heck out of the stand then use polystyrene? how thick should it be? and under the whole bottom or just along the rim of the base of the tank with touches the stand?

Shim the stand, then put a sheet of polystyrene underneath...In the UK, builders merchants sell sheets in half inch, inch and 2 inch thickness....I used some 2inch (50mm) sheets to insulate and balance my outdoor tank...still no leaks or casualties, despite the odd heavy frost

Cheers

how do you shim the stand if it has several board that contact the ground?

Is it the stand which isn't straight or the floor?

It's a process requiring perseverance and patience and lots of thin shims...You have to adjust each foot gradually, until the whole thing is flat...and doesn't rock at all. :X Y ou could always get a smaller tank  no? I didn't think so!!!! :hey: :hey: :hey:

Good luck!

I have same prob with a Jewel tank (currently sitting empty in the alcove) I used corrogated cardboard before, but couldnt get it dead level. Dont really fancing altering the stang with it being no more than chipboard, and documents/instructions with tank say NOT to use polystyrene.

Just for reference, its definately my floor that isnt level (its a council house, nothing is level, nothing has a staights edge, even the walls have dips and rises)

If you can't get polystyrene or styrofoam buy a camping roll mat. We searched everywhere for something suitable with no joy. Then we tried the roll mat, works great and not very expensive. :)
