Two of my boys aren't doing so good right now, so I'd like opinions on what I can do for them. First one is my blue crowntail who is in a gallon bowl. He has always been very shy, and I tried him as my male when breeding about 2? weeks ago. He seemed to come out of his shell afterwards (they're weren't successful however), and was much more active. In the last few days though, he has just been very lethargic - just laying on his plant and not really responding much. He isn't showing any other signs of problems - he is still eating, etc. I thought maybe since it has been colder lately, that might be part of it, so I put a light on his bowl, but so far no difference. :/ I don't know what's up with him but it's definitely worrying me. Even when he was shy he wasn't like this. I'm thinkin I will wash out his bowl completely, gravel and all (he did have .5 nitrite), add salt, and should I add BettaMax? I think I'll buy some tomorrow, if y'all think that would help. Or anything else?

Secondly, I have another male in a kritter keeper, Montoya. He is also lethargic lately - layin on the bottom, and clamped fins sometimes. Also is eating... um, I'm worried that he may have velvet. However, it doesn't really fit the bill - it looks like maybe his whole body and fins are covered in a very very light covering of gold. However, I can't distinguish actual spots, and it's not in certain areas. I honestly don't know if this is his coloring or not... So I feel stupid! Maybe I should give him the same treatment? Clean tank, BettaMax, salt... :dunno: Help! Also though I'd pick up some Aquari-Sol, it's supposed to be a good preventative and treatment. Anyone use that?

Input welcome guys and gals, thanks so much!!

One of my bettas got like that awhile back. Really lethargic, not interested in anything...I treated it with a good bowl scrub, warmed up the water abit, added a tad extra salt and yes aquarisol,it works great. It works incredibly well on finrot, put them in a wetnet, apply the aquarisol directly to the finrot area and it stops immediately. After the direct treatment I add it to the water. Sometimes they get lethargic with the onset of finrot and what not before you can see it happening. IMO aquarisol is great stuff. I'm positive it will treat velvet as well as it does finrot. I would try aquarisol before bettamax,I've had more success with it. Let me know how they progress, and I hope they feel better soon. :)

one thing we do these days is set up a jar with indian almond leaf and use it as a "betta spa". we leave the betta in for about 3 or 4 days in the yellow water and it seems to charge them up again. much more active and healthy. ;)

I started doing that once a month. :) They don't like the yellow water, but once they get it changed back they are super perky, much more colorful and way more active.
