Lesion On Rummynose Tetra - Help Please!

how much salt, what type did you use and for how long?

Half a tablespoon, I mixed it in a cup of his bucket water and added it slowly over the course of an hour..adding a little bit every 15 mins or so. When I came up to add the last bit of water he was dead.
 
It was API aquarium salt
