Hi all,me again  If you notice my avatar you will see a leopard danio, or is it?
I have been trawling (excuse the pun) the net and found some confilcting info
I was lead to belive that this is a "Brachydanio "frankei " ( rerio )" leopard danio, but now I think that it is a "Brachydanio nigrofasciatus" spotted danio aka dwarf danio :dunno: :dunno: If anyone can help that would be great

Also I now have a lot of info on many types of danio so if you need just ask!

Edit
anyone know about spotted danios?

The Leopard Danio, D. frankei has 4-5 rows of spots, sometimes so close to each other they can look like stripes, but they are individual spots. The Spotted Danio, D. nigrofasciatus has 1-2 clear stripes above and spots below. It is hard to tell from your picture which is the case.

Hi Fluffy
Leopard Danio [Brachydanio "frankei " ( rerio )]
Males tend to be slender and females tend to be rounder. They are egg scatterers and tend to lay first thing in morning but can lay at almost any time. They can reach 6 cm and tolerate temps between 18-24c.

There is a good thread on how to breed in the breeding section

I hope this helps. :D

I heard somewhere that leopards are just a form of zebra danio, much like gold gouramis a form of blue gouramis. Is this true?

Great - seems I have a reasonable mix then.
Thanks

There is a split in the scientific community on this subject
most icthyologist now tend to belive that they are a seperate species,
As do I. My reasoning for this is...
They have their own latin name
They are sexually mature(i.e able to breed)
And they are found naturaly in Japan not india nepal
etc as the Zebras are!

This is just my opinion but I have been doing a lot of reasearch on the net about all danios.

>>> that leopards are just a form of zebra danio,

The two species are considered to be distinct.

>>> Would like to get some fry but need to know more about them

D. frankei is very similar to the Zebra, D. rerio in that they continuously spawn. They do tend to like a little warmer conditions, but otherwise, they scatter eggs continuously. The easiest way to get fry is to put a shoal in a tank, (with a coarse substrate or other method preventing the adults reaching the eggs), for a week, then take them out again, fry will appear shortly afterwards. Similaly, if you keep the contents of your gravel cleaning in a bucket at a suitable temperature, fry appear within days.
