Hi,

This may sound a little stupid, but if I leave a tank empty for a few weeks the seals wont loose strenght or anything will they?

Thanks

Nope how do you think fish stores sells tanks, they don't sell the tank with water in it.

Just as an afterthought. A few weeks or even a few months heck maybe even a couple years won't hurt your seals but over years the seals will weaken if left dry.

I have an All-Glass make 10 gallon tank which was empty from 1995 to 2005, and it took water without issue. It was mentioned to me on this forum, that the silicone could have possibly dried, and to be careful when first using it. At the time, I was advised to use warm water so that the seals could be rehydrated in case they were. *shrug*

I didn't use warm water. Warm-ish water, perhaps, but it wasn't entirely intentional. If you're leaving it be in an extreme circumstance -- very cold, or very warm, very wet or very dry, etc -- definately take care in storing the tank. And when refilling it, definately do so quite slowly, so that in case it does leak, the damage is minimal.

I was quite lucky my 10gal made the 10 year trip. :D

My six gallon tank is over 8 years old, and for 5 years, it was sitting on the loft, without water. When I took the tank out and filled it with water, there were no leaks, and there still aren't any.

On top of that, the tank is not made very well. They're stronger than we think they are.
