On two of my background plants some of the leaves have sort of curled all round the edges i just wondered if this was due to a lack of something in my tank???
I have a Fluval Duo 180L (40G) Tank.

I currently have API Laterate subtrate mixed in with my normal subtrate, i use API Leaf plant food once a week and have been using Seachem Flourish Excel at the recommend dose for nearly a week now, is there anything else i should be doing to try and improve the look of the leaves, some also have algae on but i'm hoping a couple of weeks dosing with Excel will get rid of this.

Any help as always much appreciated.

Regards

Neil

What type of plant is it? Some plant leaves do actually curl.

My Hygrophilia Polysperma was doing that. It was the uppermost leaves that were curling up at the edges. This was at it's worst several weeks ago. Since then I have done a few water changes but pretty much haven't changed anything - the curling is still happening but not as badly. I'm still not 100% what causes this so I'm with you on this one. Anyone got the solution? I don't see how it could be a defficiency as I am adding more fertiliser now than I once used to - and I never had the leaves curling before. Perhaps it is an excess of something in the water that causes it?

Does the tank get direct sunlight for a large duration before the artificial lighting starts?

The left hand side of my new tank sticks out of a wall alcove and all the plant leaves down the left hand side of the tank curl over towards the light on a morning and then turn back once the lighting starts. This produces a ripple effect on one of my java ferns and roséflora.

Could be a fert deficiency. If you're dosing excel that plants will be using other nutrients at a higher rate now due to the availability of the carbon, which may mean they are depleted in the water column Curled leaves could be an iron or potassium deficiency. Trouble is these are both almost impossible to test for without some very expensive equipment. You could try changing the fert to seachem flourish which I think contains both but check the bottle before you buy. But give it a few weeks for the plants to show signs of recovery.

Thanks for the replies, the plants that are doing it are my Echinodorus ones i have a Bleheri, Palaefolius var. latifolius, and a Barthii one.

No direct sunlight gets into the tank, i use Interpet floraboost or API leaf as my liquid fert and excel as a form of carbon boost so i thought i'd have had most bases covered, the curls don't look horrible they actually look quite nice!! but i just wanted to check that these plants do get curly leaves and that i'm not missing out on something!!!!
