So here's the story... My boyfriend's best friend and his girlfirend just moved up here to Wisconsin from Tampa, Florida about a week ago. They had been doing a bit of unpacking tonight when they found a tiny lizard in one of the boxes. It escaped, but they found it again, caught it, and then called me up and asked if I wanted to take it off their hands! And of course I said yes! :hyper:

Now I have no clue what kind of lizard it is, but from their description, it sounds like it's a wild Anole...you know, one of those fake Chameleons that they sell in pet stores? :p ;) But I could be wrong, as I haven't seen it myself.

But whatever kind it is, I am super excited. :kana: I used to keep lizards when I was younger and just loved them. We are going to go pick up some stuff for it tomorrow after work, and get a cage set up. Then we are going to go pick him up and get him settled in his new home. :D

I'm just so excited, I had to tell you guys now. Hopefully I can get some pictures of him tomorrow, and I'll post them here. I can't wait!!!

most likely its an anole. do some research on what you'll need. they are arboreal which means they like to be up high, so a taller tank is best, with plenty to vines to climb on, though a 10 gal would work. they'll also need a heat light and uv light. you'll need to mist the tank a couple times a day, keep it humid. feeding is easy, crickets.

you must post pics!!! i love my little anoles, they have such character. not much for being held and handled, but i love 'em anyway

Thanks guys! And MAM thanks much for the info. :D I actually used to keep Anoles a while ago, but my sister killed them while I was on vacation for a weekend...she didn't check where they were in the tank, and closed the mesh cover on them. :-( :-( But a refresher course is always good.

I actually just ran to the pet store (I'm on my lunch break ;) ) and picked up some stuff for the little guy. I got a shallow water dish, some really nice thin skinny driftwood pieces to look like branches, and some of those neat plastic hanging plants with the suction cups on 'em. :p I have a heat rock at home, already. All I need is to pick up a 10 gallon tank (I'll probably upgrade later, but this is all I can afford on such short notice  ), a mesh cover, the heat lamp, and the substrate (I'm going to use the same stuff I use in my Tarantula tank, that Eco-Earth stuff that expands in water).

I also had a quick question. Assuming this guy is an Anole (which I'm almost positive that it is), will he be ok if I decide to add in a few other pet store Anoles to keep him company? Or will the whole wild and tame thing just not work? :/

most herp keepers will tell you not to mix species. but with anoles, who are pretty passive, you might get by with another lizard that needs similar conditions, but that won't eat the anoles............... the main thing to keep in mind in their habitat needs. for example, you really couldn't put anoles with a leopard gecko, different temp and humidity needs.......... but you might be able to put an anole iwth say a house gecko (they often share habitat in florida) or some other smaller gecko who likes it humid. but keep in mind space, hides, etc. you could always go with a few more anoles, depending on enclosure size, though no more than one male is recommended.

I keep my anole with a Crocodile gecko and a golden gecko

Ok, thanks for the info. I'm not going to mix species of lizards, but depending on whether this little one is a male or a female, I'd like to get 2 more Anoles...a total of 2 females and 1 male. I think that would be nice.

Well, I'm leaving work now to go pick the little guy up! :D Hopefully, I can get some pictures for you guys tonight. I'll post them here if I do.

Probably a brown anole. They're really common around there; I'd be shocked if it was green one. THe brownies are actually more terrestrial than their green cousins, though. I have one, too, by the way. Gorgeous little male; beautiful patterning on his back, little over two inches long. QUICK little bugger, though!! Almost escaped, once, too. Never woulda caught 'em if hadn't fallen back into his own cage. Cats would have enjoyed his company, though.

They are fast, mine got out once (housing change to a larger home) and it jumped onto my arm, by luck, and I grabbed the thing. We have two cats and a dog too, so it would have been gone if I hadn't caught it.

Well, we've got the little one home safe and sound! :D We are almost postive that it's a female, so we've named her Samus. :flex: ;) I can't believe that she's not dead yet...I mean she went a week without food or water, and she is just as frisky as can be. And she is super tiny...only about an inch and a half! :hyper:  We have to feed her from a fruit fly culture that I bought from one of the pet stores around here...she's even too small for pinhead crickets.

And of course I took some pics...you really didn't think that I could get a new pet and not take some pics now did you? :p ;)

First off, here's her new 10 gallon home. I think it turned out rather nice, for just being thrown together at the last second. ;) And no it's not going to stay on the floor forever...I just didn't have any tables or shelves avaliable.
