I agree with all that has been said regarding resealing the tank (i.e. as mikey suggested). That said, I also agree with the statement about finding cheap tanks. I do not reseal tanks. If mine leak, and only one has to date (I did a 5.5 gal letting it sit 1/2 filled but not properly supported), I replace them. I can afford to do this and it is easier when one can. I usually give away the leaker to somebody willing to do a proper repair.
That said you do have another option for dealing with the fish from the leaking tank. You can buy a Rubbermaid container and use it as a temp. tank. You can usually put the filter heater etc. into it along with the fish. Feed as little as possible and they should be OK until you reseal or replace the tank. Add as much decor from the tank as you can as well. Use the lid if you have fish that jump.
I keep a few 16 ga.l (about 60l) Rubbermaids for storing excess plants, parking tank contents temporarily or using as an emergency tank as described.
