Finally set up my fish tank yesterday and turned everything on, went to check a few hours later and the bottom of the cabinet was soaked. Turned everything off over night (fish are ok thank god) so we could try fix it today.

There is a leak at the bottom of the inlet pipe. We don't know how its supposed to look, but there is sealant glue around the pipe so i dont know if its broken before?

sorry about the pic, had to take it on my phone.

any ideas how i can fix this? and preferably today? :( whys it have to be broken on a sunday

so just remove the old silicon and put some new on? my mum is worried about it moving and leaking again. Ill have to go to the pet shop and get some aquarium silicon. How long do i need to leave it to dry before i can use it again? Ive put a tiny internal filter in the tank just to get some circulation

remove as much of the old as you can then add new just do a better job than last time and it will be fine depends on the sealent but it should dry within 15 mins

my mam is good at fixing things, so im pretty positive she will do a better job  Second hand tank off a friend. I don't know why they didn't mention to me that it had been leaking before. It must have been leaking at their house

Thanks for the help :D

as a temp measure if the leak isnt too bad put the filter in a washing up bowl and keep it running in that no spills then ;)

We sorted it :)
The previous owners wanted to have the pipe going at a specific angle (no idea why), so they loosened it and then siliconed it in. We cut out the old silicon and then screwed the pipe in tighter and now its water tight :) . There is a small drip coming from a hose connection too though :/ got gaffa tape wrapped round it and a small bowl sat underneath it for the time being. Its only one drip every now and again, not like the other leak

I am glad you have sorted the problem with the inlet connection.
Where is the slow drip located? Maybe there is a solution that one of us could suggest for that.

It was where the actual hose pipe connects to the hose connector (if this makes sense). I pushed it back on as hard as i could the other day and ive not been home the past two days and the pipe is dry and the bowl is empty :) so i think its sorted

this is one of the problems that i pointed out in another thread

you will find it maybe safer to replace the broken part rather then do a temp fix ALL eheim parts can be got fairly easy

not sure if i would be able to sleep at night with a fix like you are taking about doing you could wake up in the morning to find 60% of your tank water on the floor

that said it is what you have explained above its not just a case of pushing the hose back on you need to undo the locking nut to they far point then push the hose on and do the nut back up

The bottom of the filter hasnt leaked any more :) It was literally just a loose screw from the previous owners. We have paper towels on the bottom of the cabinet and are checking it numerous times a day to make sure it isnt leaking.

Thanks for that :) Ill definately do it
