lava rock?

HI, IM SETTING UP A 55 GALLON TANK FOR SOME CICHLIDS AND WAS WONDERING IF IT WOULD BE OK TO USE PIECES OF LAVA ROCK IN THE AQUARIUM. IVE BEEN TO NUMEROUS LFS AND LANDSCAPING STORES AND HAVENT HAD MUCH LUCK ON FINDING SOME DECENT LOOKING ROCKS FOR THE AQUARIUM. THANKS

Lot's of light, lot's of time, and lot's of glass scraping :)

I did find that once the algae had grown I was able to significantly reduce the amount of lighting so that algae mostly stopped growing on the walls, but the algae already established seemed to stay that way - perfect!
 
HEY I ENDED UP FINDING AN AWESOME LANDSCAPING STORE WITH TONS AND TONS OF ROCKS. I BOUGHT A BUNCH OF THE DARK RIVER ROCK AND WAY CHEAPER THAN THE STUFF AT THE LFS!! THANKS FOR THE INFO ON THE LAVA ROCK THOUGH :)
