What is the largest fish i can put in a 30 gallon long tank? I realize it wont be too big as the tank is only 3 ft long. But i have a spare 30 gallon laying around that im thinking of doing like a small display tank, no substrate, ne decor, just a couple fish 1-4. No goldfish! Thanks

Do you know your water hardness and pH? We can help narrow down your choices if you do. c:

I forget my ph. But hardness is 6 on an api test kit. I want to say my oh is between 6.8 and 7.2

I would limite the fully grown length of the fish to 6" max. Any longer than that it will have a very hard time turning around due to the 12 width of the tank. Even a 6" fish may find it uncomfortable to turn around.

I also would mind having a pair of fish that will breed and raise their own fry

If you want them to breed a pair of Keyhole or dwarf cichlids would be a good choice

Poor fish. There is no display fish. All fish have needs and like cover to hide. Do you like to be exposed naked in a cage on a big busy square? Fish don't like that either. Imho this has nothing to do with proper fish keeping and you should get a picture frame or a video screen.

I don't agree with keeping fish in bare tanks either.

No fish evolved to live in an environment like that. Even fish who live in areas where there are no plants have rocks or dead wood and a substrate of some kind.
