my large texas green has an enlarge mouth, with red fever blister type things on his lips near his teeth, is on a SLIGHT tilted swimming axis and isnt playing find my finger anymore with me

none of my other fish seem to have any symptoms of anything wrong besides my giraffe venustus cichlid which looks like he may have gotten niped on the head by my eel(which happily jumped out of the water and commited suicide last night, found him in the bathroom covered in dog hair, permanent "s" shape.

ideas? if i can get a good picture of him i will try but hes hiding under a piece of black slate in his cave

with the bubble stone near his cave and the filters cycling out some substrate dust and my .01$ phone camera.

but you can clearly tell his mouth looks like fish herpes and i dont want him to die! could it be from over feeding? he basically devoured one of my cichlids after the crawdads got to it, and i feel like he may be bloated, constipated, or ick ugh

:grr:

How many gallons is the tank?
Can you post water stats please. Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph?

Has the fish been locking mouths with other fish in the tank?
Do the red blister look like there filled with puss?
You say the mouth swollen. Does it look also like it's rotting away?
Is the fish still bloated?

Can you isolate the sick fish and try a bacterial medication?

Sorry for your loss. :rip:

currently have him in a isolation tank with a fungus cure cycle going, tried to see if anything was lodged in his bowels, as we had a krib get eaten out of the tank.

its 75g, im doing a 25% water change right now and syphoned the gravel/sand

i dont have my water readings because one of the dogs ate our test kit.

he wasnt mouth locking, hes less bloated but hes bleeding out of the mouth lol, i think he has internal damage, possible from trying to eat a large crawfish claw. its the only explaination right now, i have about 10 other cichlids and all are fine, no signs of ick.

hes not pooping, i'll probably lose him, but you live you learn, he survived our ammonia spikes throughout our tanks about 2 months ago but alas i think its his end.

and theres no rotting, just red blister type things along the inside of his lips/rim of his mouth, though he seems to be opening and closing it more today

He does sound bad.
All you can do for him in try an internal bacteria medication.
He could have sores, cuts inside his mouth aswell.

You could also try dropping 2 droplets of cod liver oil into his mouth., This should help him go to the toilet. You will have to wrap him in a clean cloth soaked in tank water, Ask someone to hold the fish down for you gently. While you add the drops.

Let us all know how he gets on. That's if you don't mind.

Good Luck.

great advice, i think im going to leave him alone for the night due to stress, but i will keep posted on him.

hopefully have this water change things will be back to normal again.

after about 2 hours in the isolation tank and his facial swelling is going down, im showering him with a bubble stone to promote any toxins to lift out, and will continue the fungus cure as it seems to be the best thing right now.

hes picked up a bit of energy, hes really enjoying the aeration stone when i put it under him, did a smidge more fungus cure since hes bigger, and this is pretty much kill him with treatment or him die anyways...

but so far so good, the swelling is continuing to decrease and his breathing seems easier

he might make it guys! im not sure though, hes relaxing in a dark 3 side covered tank with a corydora that seemed to be iffy from the fish store today. they both are doing better since they are in the isolation take with the fungus cure and random bubble showers from the aeration stone i have in the tank. probably going to add some more tank water before bed just to make sure theres enough oxygen since im lacking a pump that is fit for this tank.

im hoping that he was secretly fighting with my freshwater eel that i had cought and put in my tank at night, and that he developed fungus on the wounds and it hurts him to eat?

we will see what tomorrow brings :?

night vision fungus cure, but from his sillhouette you can tell his mouth is smaller

hes doing even better this morning, i cant believe it!

really thought he was going to go caputt last night in the bare minimum iso tank i have.

im going to continue the fungus cure cycle and see if that helps, he seems to be wanting to be interested in food this morning but i want to hold off until i see a poop

Bless Him.
How do the blisters look?

hes still alive, and the blisters are still red but seems to be lessening. hes been moving around more today, the swelling looks better, and hopefully we are out of the ~red zone~

Glad to hear the swelling gone down. Any blood still coming out of his mouth?
