SOFT water - ph of 7-7.2

i have an empty 240 and a stocked 180 - heavilly planted
they are going on a 2 tier stand (converted into cabinet) together 240 on top 180 underneath

the 180 has
5 Dwarf gouramis
9 honey gouramis
3 bolivian Rams (until they pair off)
3 gold balloon rams (until they pair off)
6 peppered corys
4 trilineatus corys
8 venezuelanus corys
5 panda corys
3 cw021 corys
4 sterbai corys
1 delphax cory
4 young bn plecs
various shrimps and apple snails

SO this stock either goes in the 240 and adds some to it or it stays in the 180

PURELY ideas - i've been thinking of transferring the 180 into the 240 and putting
lots of Pseudomugil Gertrudae, sparkling gouramis and other little pretty fish

CANNOT have any non friendly fish as my little girl (3) dont like fish fighting but my little boy loves parrot fish

try and please hubby and kids and me lmao take care

could have planted with discus(i think they are ok for the 240) and then a shoal or cardinals, shouldnt be no aggression, maybe you will have to have a tank for each child, that way one can have, colourful fish and the other agressive intresting ones

they already got the rekord 60 which we're swapping for a 125

Discus sounds like a good idea if you've got the money to buy adults (or the patience to keep the water in top condition with juvi's.)

If you're happy with the 180 I'd keep it as it is and try something different with the 240 - some of the bigger gourami maybe, some boesmani rainbows, angels and pictus cats perhaps?

Cichlid's tend to be aggressive, even the smaller one's......I have a small male krib, rehomed him from a local memeber which he was causing havoc in his tank, he's in my 5ft with a chocolate cichlid and will stand off against him, funny to watch because it's all yea yea then he scrurrie's away

I have found having only these two cichlid's and other normal"ish fish like tinfoil's/bala's etc it's nice and peaceful for the most part....

how about a personable, 'pet' fish and a few dithers?

i.e. say a blue Acara or similar sized responsive cichlid and then a shoal of good sized Rainbows and maybe a few cats like hoplos.

Or an oddball setup? possibly have african oddballs, like a few reedfish, a ctenompoma, a few african butterfly fish, a few pairs of african butterfly cichlids and possibly some yellow or blue congo tetras.

You could also add your existing stock to the 240L leaving the 180 for a SAP or two with some quick swimming dithers such as danios, less nippy barbs or scissortails.

Also similar to the first idea you could use the 180L for a more temperamental cichlid and just keep it with a pleco or Senegal bichir or a few hoplos, examples could be an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, a Green Terror Gold Saum or even a pair of smaller less aggressive cichlids like T.Ellioti or Sajicas, etc..

great ideas everyone
see what hubby and kids say -- cos everyone decided it's not just my choice anymore - i've got away with it for sooo long lol
