I recently purchased a new veiltail betta, Pierre. He's been making bubble nests nonstop since being in his new home. My boyfriend's king betta, Apollo, has also been quite adept at making them.

I've had Rocky, a halfmoon plakat, for about 6 months now. Rocky has never made a bubble nest.

Any thoughts? I will try to get a photo up soon.

Other notes: Pierre is in a 1.5 gallon right now (larger tank is almost ready for him) and Rocky is in a 10.

Some bettas are like that they don't make bubble nests, Are you sure he is a he?

My betta doesn't make a bubble nest, I believe its just because, as Nick said, some bettas just don't do that. If Rocky seems otherwise healthy and happy I wouldn't worry.

There could be various reasons as others said some are more likely than others to build, if the flow is too great in a tank bubble nests don't stick well if he is in a 10 gallon with more flow this too may be why,  has he got a leaf or anything to build under? sometimes this also will prompt them, I have one that doesn't build till he catches sight of a female then there is no stopping him! try a square of bubble wrap if you have one as it looks like a nest so may get him going, either way it doesn't matter if he won't as long as he is healthy and happy

Bubble nests are a tricky indicator.  Betta can make bubble nests when they're content but also when they're stressed.

If the general health of your Betta is ok and he's eating and the environment is suitably taken care of with good maintenance you really don't need to worry.
