How long have you had him?

Is this a sudden thing?

If he's new it can take a week or so to settle.

Congrats on your new addition.

They are very shy plecs and settling them in takes a while. The best way to feed them to start off with, it to drop the food as close as possible just before you switch the lights off at night. They only come out when they feel secure, and that's normally at night.

Only some L260's eat veggies. I have two, and our male is strictly a meat eater while the female loves potato, cucumber and courgette. You can feed them defrosted shrimp from your local supermarket. But only one, ever 10-14 days. You don't want to over do it with the protein. Other than that, shrimp pellet and disks are readily eaten. I have just purchased ours Hikari sinking wafers for Catfish, loaches and bottom feeders.

It will take a few months for your little guy to get his confidence and come out with the lights on and you in the room. Have you got a cave or bog wood for him/her to hide in or under?? How big is he/she?

And have you got any pics??? I'd love to see your little guy.

Hope this helps,
Keep well

Wow  , gorgeous Arabesque. And great tank too. Looks gorgeous.

Are you here in the UK?? If so, try getting some JMC catfish pellets. They come in an orange tub. Mine go mad for them, and they break down easier for them to eat. So they don't sit there for ages and get hardly anything. The Hikari are really great, all my fish go absolutely mad for them, but unless you're going to be able to get it right to the plec, he/she may not want to come out and chew on it for ages. They take a long time to break down.

Has yours taken the cave? Try and drop the food right on them if possible. Our male took ages. He didn't eat for a week and I ended up physically sticking my hand into the tank and dropping them as close as possible to him. He freaked out a bit the first time, but eventually got the picture. And after a few weeks I dropped the food further away. Now a year later, he comes out at least 3 times before I feed to see if the food has been dropped yet. My female is the same, but she was a lot friendlier than him when we got her.

Good luck and keep us posted. :good:

Keep well

yeah, i'm in the uk i think i've seen those jmc catfish pellets so i'll try some of those.
Has yours taken the cave?
no hes at the other end of the tank behind a plant, if he doesn't eat at all i'll do what you did and stick the pellets right in front of him

im not putting you off by aqnything i say here, as obviously some are different to others. and my L260 sat under a piece of bogwood for at least 3 months had to drop wafters in front of him before i went to bed and it got to about 3 and a half months and i was just priity darn bored of it. so my LFS often stock plecs and rarley have L260's in, i dont know how but i got him for £3.00 at 3" i think he sudda been thirty after reading somewhere that people pay 45++ for them. took him back to lfs and it was a different worker. i told them the story and they gave me £20.00 for him, i was well chuffed. (the girl who was working i think was a one off as i have never seen her before and never since) probably from the other store!

how much did you pay?

Some fish are very active, always on display, while others make you work hard for their attention. That's what makes them different and special. Our first L260 took months to come out, about 3 if I remember correctly, but he was well worth the wait. A lot of what fish keeping is about, is being patient and being rewarded with glimpses of your special fish. Our visitors are always intrigued when they visit, first impressions are always the fast swimming mid swimming display fish like our harlequins and tetras. Then feature fish like angels and discus. And then there are those that you really have to look hard for, who add mystery and keep you interested, like the plecs, who like to hide away. Those are the pleasures of fish keeping. Not all aspects of the hobby are for everyone, like we're not into oddballs. But research and thought goes a long way, before purchasing fish. But saying that, we all make those spontaneous buys that we either learn to look after, or take back.

i paid £18 for mine i was going to get a bristlenose because they were more active
but i decided to get the l260 because it's nicer and when you do see it it will make your day, week or even month

it's from pier aquatics in wigan

it's great for oddballs and have some huge plecs that look like their from the dinosaur age

i ordered some jmc catfish pellets yesterday off ebay and they came today (very quick delivery)
so i'll see if he'll eat them tonight ( i put some tetramin next to him last night and i think he could have has some of them)
