My lfs is soon going to get 30 tank-bred zebra plecs for £90 each! :hyper:
Temptation is really getting the better of me and i might get one for my 125L tank with the little slate cave
So what do you think?

ummm what do you mean 'what do you think?'

They're going to be young off-spring probbaly no bigger than an inch...so you'll need to be careful what you feed it (or them), ie no bloodworm or they may choke to death.
What other fish do you have in the tank? Zebra's are not good at competing for food and also prefer higher temps to most fish.

You can feed bloodworms, but it must be shaved. People just use frozen bloodworms and shave them into smaller pieces. When I had my juvenile zebra (under an inch), I wasn't aware I had to shave the bloodworms and just fed it whole. It still did well. I also fed my next juvenile zebra (also under an inch) regular whole bloodworms and never had any problems as well.

It's going to be with otos, harlequins, corys and 2 dwarf gouramis I was going to get it instead of a queen arabesque,
but since they're quite rare and breeders tend to buy them i just want your opinions on whether i should buy one or not?, but since they're tank bred i might.
And the temp will probably about 26C

There are plenty more foods avilable which make 'shaving bloodworm' a pointless task imo. Especially considering bloodworm doesn't have that much of a nutritional value to begin with.

Personally I'd only keep in breeding groups. While they're so rare it I believe it would be unfair to take away a fish who could possibly be bred from purely for viewing pleasure. If you could breed them, and give them their own tank, then go for it :good:

But that's just my view, so dont use it as gospel - just how I'd feel if I wanted one. For £90 I'd rather have a big plec I could show off though :D

Yeah, thats what i thought so i might stick with the queen arabesque, if anyone wants to know the shop website here it is
http://www.pieraquatics.co.uk/
It's brilliant for plecs and oddballs and sells lots of stingrays and an arowana and loads of plecos

It'll be good to see some in shops finally.

As darkstar pointed out though - they will be very small.

You would want to make the tank the zebras tank if you did get 'one'
There is no point spending £90 on a fish fr it not ot be happy and die ;)

I agree with this--the species is still so rare, in the wild and in captivity, and so costly, I myself wouldn't buy any at all unless I was willing to get several and commit to attempting to breed them. I'd rather the small supply end up in the hands of hobbyist breeders who will, in the future, increase said supply.
