Hello,

Last week I posted a topic about a LFS visit I made, simply to share my experience when there with those who might be local and interested in a visit.

I was going to write another one today, but first I thought I would ask the moderators how this sort of thing is viewed? I've not seen many (if any) reviews from other board members and wondered if there was a specific reason.

I ask because there have been countless threads about certain, large chain stores that have turned into rants rather than observations/reviews. If by posting my thoughts about a particular LFS will encourage others to slander other stores in the same 'review' format (and expose the board to legal reprocussions) then I will just leave it.

thoughts?

Frowned upon. They come to the mod's & admin's with complaints of slander & legal proceedings.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think it would be a great thread to be honest. If it was just kept as reviews only, the same way as the plant donation thread is supposed to contain nothing other than donations and feedback. If there was such a thread it could be stipulated that the poster give feedback over all of the aspects of the shop, not just "dirty tanks", "a dead fish" but whether it stocks any good foods, will order specific fish in for you, what they're like for hardware etc. Any complete slandering comments can be reported and deleted. A star rating beside each subject heading such as:

Hardware
Livestock
Price
Foods
Customer service

So on

ive praised an LFS in the past and pointed them out as a heads up but not slated one

+1. Rather than slate a bad LFS, praise the good ones then people know what is out there and which ones to visit.

On the other hand though, what happens if you do visit a bad one? Do you just not write a review/post about it?! :/ could get tricky?

I'm all for providing positive feed back to the lfs that are doing a great job. I don't think posting negative comments about an lfs does anything except put out more bad energy into the universe.

Also, being a small business owner myself, I really appreciate my customers coming to ME if they have an issue rather than slander me behind my back. Trust me, you can invoke change much better by going to a manager or owner of a store rather than post a rant on a forum. I tell my customers, "if you are happy with my business, tell everyone. If you are unhappy with something, tell me". It's a much nicer way to go about it IMO.

Edit to add: On my local forum, they have a non- public quality survey that you can fill out for different lfs in my area. So basically, you can say what you like and don't like about the lfs and the lfs is able to see the info and use it to improve their business.

this was my point. I had no intention of slating a LFS, but if by submitting LFS reviews I was concerned it would encourage others to submit negative or even slanderous ones.

There is another factor to consider too. Since we are an international forum, lfs reviews would only interest a very limited number of members who happen to live in that particular area.
